Game Show Problem (Answer)

A game show host shows a contestant three boxes and explains that one contains a sum of money and the other two are empty. He invites the contestant to select a box.

When he knows which box the contestant has chosen, he opens another box and shows that it is empty. He now asks the contestant whether they wish to change their choice.

Finally, he opens whichever box is now the contestant's choice in order to reveal whether it contains the money.

Would it be better for the contestant to stay with their original choice, or to change it, or does it make no difference?

Now go to the answer.
